Will Skipp’s impressive record in the Durham County Boys Championship continued at his home club Eaglescliffe.
Skipp, 16, posted rounds of 71 and 73 to beat Houghton’s Ryan Lewis-Mackie and club colleague Will Alexander by four shots – adding the under-18s trophy to his two wins in the under-16s event and one win in the under-14 tournament.
Skipp delivered the win while studying for his GCSEs at Hartlepool’s Dyke House College.
He said: “It feels amazing as it’s the first event I’ve gone into where I didn’t see myself as favourite as I wasn’t playing very well and I’ve had a lot of exams. Both rounds went really well. I just tried to play within myself and didn’t attack anything too much because that’s when things have gone wrong.
“Now I just want to get my exams out of the way and concentrate on golf over the summer to prepare for national events, and hopefully have a few good finishes to push towards getting a national call up.”
In the under-16 tournament, Ramside’s Adam Charlton shot a round of 70 beat George Washington’s Duran Gun by three shots and lift the trophy.
Meanwhile Heworth’s Ben Willis claimed the under-14 crown, his 78 two better than Harry Etherington of Ramside and Nicky Lee Shield of Barnard Castle.
