Victory for Shacklady

David Shacklady ran away with the PGA North Region PGA Pro Am Series in Portugal.

The Mossock Hall pro never looked back after an opening 66 and eventually won the series – played over four courses in Vilamoura – by eight shots, although Cumbria’s Gary Wolstenholme had the consolation of doubling up on the runners-up spot in the individual and team events.

The Carus Green pro shot rounds of 69, 71, 72 and 75 to Shacklady’s 66, 72, 70 and 72 and was delighted to finish second while leading his team from Carus Green to the runners-up spot in the team event.

Andrew Mattinson and father and son duo Bob and Liam Mason formed Gary’s team as they played Monte Rei, Laranjal, Victoria and Quinta Do Lago.

“The team did extremely well and we were in contention right from the very start which kept us all feeling positive,” said Wolstenholme.

“I have now played in this competition for more than five years. It’s great fun and escaping the British weather was also a bonus! Coming second out of 22 teams is a real achievement and we are delighted with the result.”
