Backworth’s Steve Anderton lifted the Mike Fleming Salver with victory in the final of the Northumberland County Golf Union’s seniors’ matchplay.
Steve – one of the eight qualifiers who made it through to the the Seniors’ Championship strokeplay event – beat strokeplay champion Alan McBride 5&4 in the morning semi-final, as Kevin Cademy-Taylor went through after Steve Findlay retired injured.
In the final at Longhirst Hall, Steve made birdies at the second, fifth, sixth and 11th to reach four under-par before closing out an impressive 8&6 win at the 12th hole.
