Alan McBride wins Northumberland Seniors Championship

Bedlingtonshire’s Alan McBride came through a three-hole playoff with defending champion Steve Findlay to win the Northumberland Seniors Championship at Longhirst Hall.

With Alan (75-77) and Steve (74-78) tied after 36 holes, the players returned to the first, second and 18th holes for the playoff – with Alan triumphing to win the event and the right to represent the county at the national Seniors’ County Champion of Champions event in September at Woodhall Spa.

Alan also won the RW Johnson Decanter for the best gross score by a player aged 65 or over, while the Tim Bull Trophy – awarded to the player with the best nett score over the first 18 holes – went to Morpeth’s Michael Brown after he shot a two under-par 71.

The top eight players – Alan, Steve, Kevin Cademy-Taylor, Ken Cairns, Michael, David Boldra, Paul Taylor and Steve Anderton – will go on to compete in the Matchplay Championship for the Mike Fleming Salver.
