Rockliffe Hall, Ramside Hall and City of Newcastle to host national events in 2025

The Logan Trophy is set to return to the North East in 2025, with Rockliffe Hall hosting the English Mid-Amateur Championship July 4-6 – while Ramside Hall is set to host the English Disability Open Championship (June 24-25), and City of Newcastle welcomes the English Women’s Champion Club event (August 30-31).

Rockliffe will host the mid-amateur tournament for the first time in July. The event has a strong connection to the region, with the trophy having been gifted in 1988 by George Logan, a stalwart of golf in the North East and former English Golf Union president, who passed away in 2020.

The event is open to male amateur golfers who are aged 35 or over on the first day of the championship, with 54 holes of strokeplay taking place over three days with a cut after 36 holes.

The last time the event took place in the North East, in 2015, Brancepeth Castle’s Richard Aisbitt lifted the trophy at The Northumberland. The last player from the region to win the title was City of Newcastle Phil Ridden, who triumphed in 2021 at Thorpeness Golf Club in Suffolk.

Meanwhile, Ramside Hall will host the English Disability Open Championship in June. Open to male and female golfers, the 36-hole event welcomes players to both scratch and nett competitions. The 2024 overall title was won by Brad Smith at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club.

Finally, City of Newcastle Golf Club will welcome the best three-player teams from each county for the English Women’s Champion Club event in August. The 36-hole strokeplay event has been played since 2023, with the best two scores from each team counting on both days. The event, which was won by North Hants in 2024, will be a highlight of the celebrations at City of Newcastle to mark the centenary of the club’s ladies section.
