Yorkshire’s boys’ team has successfully defended the Northern Counties Boys’ League trophy with one match remaining.
The boys are undefeated so far in 2026 – retaining the trophy for a third consecutive year following an 11-4 win over Northumberland, an 8.5-6.5 away win over Durham, an 8-7 away win over Lancashire, and a 10.5-4.5 victory over Cheshire.
“Winning the league title for a third consecutive season is a terrific achievement, and the boys have played really well again this year,” said Yorkshire boys’ chairman and team manager Phil Woodcock.
“The boys have performed well as a team, and their spirit and commitment has been excellent again this season. The matches against Durham and Lancashire were particularly important this year – coming from behind after the morning foursomes in both. The players deserve a lot of credit for some superb golf in all the matches, and particularly those two away from home. Every one of the Northern Counties matches is tough, and it takes a team effort to be successful.
“Twelve of the boys who have been part of our teams this year will be leaving us at the end of the season,” added Phil. “The coaches and I have been working hard to identify players who can come into our squad, and provide them with opportunities in some of our under-14 and under-16 matches as well as with the under-18 team this year. That work will continue in the weeks and months ahead as we look introduce players to the pressure and the battles they’ll face in county matches.”
The Yorkshire boys’ final Northern Counties league match against Cumbria is set for August 31, with the final match of the season – Northumberland against Durham – scheduled for September 20 with Durham chasing second place in the table.
