Ryan Dixon is enjoying life in the US.
The Durham county and Castle Eden 19-year-old recently played in the NCAA National Championship after his college, St Mary’s University in San Antonio, won the regional final in Amarillo, Texas.
As a result, Ryan along with his St Mary’s Rattlers teammates, played in the Division Two NCAA Championship in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. While they didn’t qualify for the knockout stages, they did finish a creditable tie for 11th place.
Ryan has settled in well to his golfing scholarship and he said:“The encouragement and support back home from family and friends in Blackhall Colliery and my club Castle Eden is amazing. I am extremely grateful for this once in a lifetime experience.”
Ryan is studying a four-year degree in mechanical engineering and is a regular in the university’s golf team. In the final of the Regional Championship Trophy at La Paloma in Amarillo, he dominated the second round closing with three straight birdies for a three under-par 68, the best second round score.
