Junior champion

In the Junior Champion of Champions, Hexham Golf Club’s Joseph Robson shot a one under-par round of 71 to win by two shots.

Coached by Andy Paisley at his home club, England squad member Joseph finished two shots clear of Westerhope Golf Club’s William Wilkinson and Whitley Bay Golf Club’s Brandon Jones on the Cathedral Course to earn the trophy and the chance to play alongside European Tour player Chris Paisley.

“Playing in the event and on a tough course at Ramside was a really good experience and I was over the moon to get the win.

“The weather was really tough all day, particularly the wind, bit I managed to hole a few putts and hit the ball really well all day which was the key to building my score.”

The third winner of the junior event following 2015 winner James Wilson and 2016 winner Briony Bayles, Joseph will tee it up alongside European Tour player Chris Paisley in the next few weeks as part of his prize.

“My ultimate goal is to become a European Tour player, following in the footsteps of a player like Chris,” added Joseph. “To get the chance to play alongside him will be really inspiring and I’m looking forward to hearing about life on Tour and seeing what it takes to make it there up close.”

The event, also supported by Lookers Renault and hosted by Ramside Hall, saw players from across the north of England tackle the Cathedral Course at Ramside Hall.

Northern Golfer editor Paul Robertson added: “Congratulations to Joseph on a superb win. The Junior Champion of Champions is becoming one of the north’s key junior events and we look forward to working with Lookers Renault and Ramside Hall in the future as we continue to grow the events.” For more information, including full results from all three events, go to www.northerngolfer.co.uk
