Field set for Northern Golfer Champion of Champions
An elite field of amateur golfers from across the region will compete for the Northern Golfer Men’s, Ladies and Junior Champion of Champions trophies at Longhirst Hall on September 17.
The ladies field includes England international Jess Hall (Bishop Auckland) as well as Libby Bell (Gosforth Park Ladies) who had a great week in this summer’s English Women’s Open Strokeplay Championship. They will be joined in the field by the first winner of the event, Tynemouth’s Rebecca Ferguson.
Stars of major tournaments also feature in the junior field – led by England international Charlotte Naughton (Heworth). She will compete against Northumberland and Durham junior team players as well as youngsters travelling from Cumbria and Yorkshire in the 18-hole event.
Two-time winner Phil Ridden (City of Newcastle) will aim to add a third Men’s title to his stellar CV at Longhirst, while the likes of England international Harrison Sewell (Northumberland), 2021 winner Joseph Henderson (Alnwick), 2007 winner Sandy Tywnholm (Morpeth), and county players including Cameron Thoburn (Westerhope) and John Kennedy (Consett & District) will all be aiming to lift the trophy.
