David Syson’s year as captain of Chester-le-Street Golf Club raised more than £2,000 for charity.
David chose Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) as his charity during last year, and he and wife Ruth, son Andrew, friends and family hosted a range of events including Captain’s Day, the Captain’s membership draw plus various social events and raffles.
With the help of donations from members and the club, £2,200 was raised and DCCS volunteer co-ordinator Andrea Emerson was presented with the cheque recently at the golf club.
David and Ruth care for their son Peter and know what it means to be in a caring role so wanted to do something to thank Durham County Carers Support for their help over the years and raise awareness of the work of the charity in the area.
Jenni Wood, CEO of DCCS, said: “This is a fantastic amount of money which will enable us to continue to fund projects like carers counselling sessions, the carers transport fund and our current project to fund an apprentice starting in April 2018. It is very much appreciated.”
