YLCGA to celebrate 125th birthday throughout 2025

The Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association will celebrate its 125th anniversary throughout 2025 – with special events set to mark the occasion along with major tournaments across the county.

As part of the celebrations, Yorkshire will host Northern Counties Match Week at Hessle on June 16-18, with the team aiming to secure a place in the English Women’s County Finals, which will take place at Selby September 19-21.

The county will also welcome the best female golfers in the country to the English Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship at Alwoodley on June 17-19 – where Yorkshire’s own Lily Hirst will defend the trophy.

There will also be a special pro/am am at Huddersfield on August 14, with three-player teams set to be joined by current and former members of the county team including Joy Hunter, Emma Brown, Grace Lambert, Alex Keighley, Rochelle Morris, and many more.

The county will also celebrate its long-standing on-course rivalry and off-course friendship with the Lancashire Ladies County Golf Association with matches at Huddersfield in April and Royal Birkdale in September.

“There’s a lot to celebrate and we have so much to look forward to throughout the season,” said county captain Lesly Ford. “Having spent so much time in and around county golf in various roles, it’s a great honour to be given the captaincy this year, and it’s sure to have so many highlights with team and individual events at home and further afield.

“I’ve always loved County Match Week, and it will be fantastic to have a home event this summer – and to be the one being driven around in the buggy for once! Along with my vice-captain, Pam Newman, we’re looking forward to being out and about at clubs, representing the association, and cheering on our golfers at all levels. Let’s hope we have lots to celebrate at the end of this special year,” added Lesly, who is a member of Thirsk & Northallerton and served as county secretary from 2017-2023.

As part of the celebrations, Lesly has created the Captain’s 125 Hole in One Challenge – asking the 7,500-plus ladies and girls in the county if they can make 125, or more, holes in one across the season. For full details visit ylcga.org.uk
