Rock ‘n’ roll

England Golf’s Girls Golf Rocks programme is back for 2019 across the region, and the organisers are planning to spread the recruitment programme further across the country.

Durham and Northumberland are involved again this season, and five more counties will join the successful programme – Cornwall, Hampshire, Lancashire, Lincolnshire and Worcestershire.

In total, 26 counties will be running Girls Golf Rocks and clubs in these counties will offer free taster sessions, starting in May, followed by coaching courses with PGA professionals.

Club and county girl players will again be trained as ambassadors to inspire the new girls coming into the game.

Last year more than 1,650 girls attended Girls Golf Rocks taster sessions and 1,200 participants enjoyed it so much they went on to take coaching courses with PGA professionals.

Girls Golf Rocks is a joint programme from England Golf and the Golf Foundation, supported by the women’s county golf associations. It aims to increase the number of girl players from an average of just two per club.
