LIV Golf team Majesticks Golf Club has announced a partnership with Complete PE – an interactive physical education resource – to introduce the Little Sticks programme into more than 200 schools.
The programme will begin this academic year and aims to impact more than 40,000 students, with a particular focus on supporting communities in the North East of England – where Majesticks co-captain Lee Westwood is based.
The Little Sticks initiative, launched at LIV Golf UK 2023, is designed to unlock the potential of young people through the game of golf. Leveraging players such as Lee, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Sam Horsfield as role models, the programme focuses on using golf to develop key life skills in children. With a fully developed curriculum, the programme will be integrated into PE lessons from year three onwards.
“To be able to go from a small pilot programme last year to rolling out to more than 200 schools and impacting over 40,000 children in the coming year is incredible,” said Lee. “It’s also fantastic to see so many schools implementing the programme in the North East, my home now for over a decade.”
More than 70 schools across Northumberland, Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, South Tyneside, Durham and Tees Valley will be provided with the equipment, resources, training and mentoring necessary to sustain golf delivery in their settings for years to come.
Jordan Stephenson, Majesticks GC’s head of community and impact, said: “Our research with Sheffield Hallam University shows that Little Sticks engages a diverse range of young people effectively. By including Majesticks players as role models, we’re offering children the chance to learn from the best and gain valuable life skills.”
