Harrison reigns in Spain

Northern Golfer tips professional John Harrison returned to the winners’ circle on the NE/NW PGA circuit with victory in the Andalucia Pro Am.

John led the field with 140 stableford points as Chris McDonnell finished one point back.

John said: “It’s always great to start the year out in Spain, playing great courses in your shorts. To get a win is always a good way to start the year as well.

“I’m really happy with where my game is, it’s been fantastic to keep playing over the winter in decent conditions. I’ve been a pro for 42 years now and have a win in some form every year. It’s good to get this year’s win out of the way nice and early – it takes the pressure off!”

Meanwhile, Northern Golfer Match Play Pairs champions Gary Atkinson and Stephen Carter joined the field alongside Close House-based professional Craig Smith. The team finished third as John Harrison’s team, featuring John Hunter, Chris Day, Guy Hunter took home the top prize.

Gary said: “The whole experience was absolutely brilliant. We had a great time with all the professionals and their teams, while teaming up with Craig and his dad was great fun. The organisation from Kevin Batty and Tom Flowers was first-class and we can’t thank Northern Golfer enough for the opportunity.”
