Darlington’s Callum Tarren is looking forward to teeing it up on the DP World Tour in 2025 following a tough season in the US in 2024. Callum – who turned professional in 2015 and topped the PGA Tour China Order of Merit in 2018 before playing a Covid-extended campaign on the Korn Ferry Tour – held membership of the PGA Tour from 2022-24.
With more than $3million in PGA Tour career earnings, and five top-10 finishes including a runner-up finish at The RSM Classic in 2022, last season Callum finished 181st in the FedEx Cup and 180th in the FedEx Fall series.
In 2025, he will focus his time on the DP World Tour – having been granted membership after finishing in the 126-200 category on the PGA Tour last season.
“Last year was challenging all-around,” said Callum – who went through several caddy changes and struggled with his game for extended periods. “I made a slow start to the year, though that’s not new. I then changed caddy after two-and-a-half years together and, looking back, that might not have been the right choice. Ultimately, I just didn’t have my game. In previous years I’ve played through those periods, but I didn’t get it done this time.”
Having had his fate confirmed at The RSM Classic, Callum flew home and received his invitation to join the DP World Tour when he landed.
“That email really picked me up,” he said. “I’d feared losing my card for so long that when it came, I was almost relieved. I lost focus on the week-to-week and I want to get back to that.”
Having teed it up on the Korn Ferry Tour in The Bahamas in January, Callum changed his plans and flew to the Middle East to make his DP World Tour debut.
“I have a good chance of getting into events, and I’m excited to play as full a schedule as possible over here for the first time,” Callum explained. Five players from his category get into each event on the DP World Tour and with several players above him in the category staying in the US, he hopes to play consistently in the opening part of the season.
“No matter where you play, good golf will sort everything out,” he added. “I’ve got a good team around me, people who’ve always had my back, and I’m looking forward again. I’ve been lucky to hold onto a great sponsor and with new opportunities on the DP World Tour, I’m hoping to bring a few more onboard this year.
“There’s also the benefit of being closer to home when we have events in Europe, and being closer to my fiancé, Ashleigh, and daughter, Sophia, will be awesome.
“The big goal is to be in the top-10 in the Race to Dubai at the end of the season and earn a PGA Tour card. I also haven’t won since I was in China… Good golf, no matter where I tee it up, is the only thing that will earn those.”
