Longhirst Hall-based Charlotte Naughton shone in England colours as the national mixed under-16 team was beaten by Spain at La Galiana Golf Resort in Valencia.
Having won the annual match at home last season, the England team – which also featured Teesside’s Alex Boyes – were beaten 16-8 in the season-opener in Valencia.
Despite the team loss, Charlotte picked up three points from her four matches – teaming up with Lauren Crump in the opening day foursomes for a 2up win before beating Amanda Revuelta Goicoechea 4&3 in the afternoon singles.
On day two, Charlotte once again teamed up with Lauren to win their foursomes match, before leading the team out in the singles and missing out on a clean-sweep as she lost 4&3 to Adriana Garcia Terol in the afternoon singles.
Alex meanwhile was part of four close matches, going down the 18th three times over the two days – including two very narrow singles defeats.
