Busy year ahead for NE/NW PGA

The region’s PGA professionals are set for a packed schedule of pro ams at home and abroad, plus an exciting mix of professional tournaments in 2022.

A total of 27 club pro ams will take place across the North East and North West this season along with two overseas pro ams, the early-season Pro Series, and five professional tournaments – The Northumberland & Durham Open at Morpeth, the new Sunderland of Scotland Masters at Westerhope, the NE/NW PGA Championship at Middlesbrough, the Tour Championship at Brancepeth, and the Matchplay Championship at Slaley Hall.

Steve Harrison, secretary of the NE/NW PGA, said: “We’ve got a busy year ahead and we’re looking forward to getting started.

“Our pro ams are the backbone of the association. We’re a not-for-profit organisation and we rely on hosting a lot of events and having the amazing support of our amateur players, the clubs which host us, and our incredible sponsors. We’re indebted to all those who continue to support us year after year.”

As well as the regular events, the new 36-hole Sunderland of Scotland Masters tournament will take place at Westerhope Golf Club on June 27.

“Launching a new event with the support of Sunderland of Scotland will be a big highlight of the year,” added Steve. “Our prize funds are set to increase by 35% in 2022, which is a fantastic opportunity for the professionals in our region. The talent in our fields was remarkable in 2021, with a diverse mix of winners. We’ve got some exciting players joining our ranks and I’m looking forward to seeing who comes out on top this season.”
