Slaley Hall’s Alex Buchanan outlasted some of the best amateurs from across Northumberland to win the county’s Fenwick Smith Trophy at his home club.
Alex shot a three over-par round of 75 to lead the field by one shot as Prudhoe’s Kevin Innes. Hexham’s Junior Dobson and Whitley Bay’s Dan Beeson finished in a tie for second place. Northumberland’s Andrew Gibson completed the top five.
Meanwhile, Arcot Hall’s John Wood won the county’s Forster Cup at Prudhoe Golf Club with 41 stableford points. Tynedale’s Ritchie Kendrick took second place in the event, which brings together players with handicaps of 11.5-28.4.
