Titleist adds limited-edition finish and new grinds to the Vokey wedge line-up

Titleist has expanded the options available to Vokey wedge players with the return of the Oil Can finish and the launch of new low-bounce grind options.

The limited-edition Oil Can finish is available across the SM10 wedge range. The finish, which has been refined and is more durable than previous versions, is a nod to Vokey’s Oil Can finishes of past generations – which date back to the Vokey 200 Series wedges.

The finish is applied through a PVD treatment, which helps achieve a rich copper colour while minimising reflectivity and maximising durability. Complementing the Oil Can finish is a custom copper-coloured Golf Pride Z-Grip Cord grip with BV Wings and a Project X wedge shaft with a brushed chrome finish.

“A player has to love their wedge when they look down at it, and finish plays a key role,” said Bob Vokey. “Having confidence in your wedge at address is hugely important.”

All loft, bounce and grind combinations in the Vokey Design SM10 line – in both right- and left-handed models – can be ordered with the Oil Can finish.

The list of setup combinations has also been added to with the launch of the 58.06K and 60.06K lob wedges.

The .06K models offer the greenside versatility of a low bounce lob wedge with the added forgiveness of a wide K Grind sole. These features are particularly geared towards players with shallower deliveries, or those who play on firmer turf conditions, yet still benefit from the performance of a wider sole.

The .06K Grind lob wedge, which has been available as a WedgeWorks offering in prior years, was born out of the collaboration between Bob Vokey and tour players. In the case of the .06K Grind, Bob found that some players preferred the K Grind sole but needed a lower bounce version to hit higher, softer pitches off firm, tight lies.

“As a result of those requests, we crafted a K Grind sole with six degrees of effective bounce, while maintaining the wide camber that makes the K Grind design so helpful for a wide variety of players,” said Bob. “As soon as we brought it out on tour, it was immediately accepted and in the bags of multiple players as soon as they had a chance to test it.”

“In the past few years, our in-line low bounce lob wedges have had narrow, crescent-shaped soles,” said Corey Gerrard, director of marketing for Vokey wedges. “Whether it was L Grind or T Grind, for some players, those aren’t necessarily the most forgiving sole designs for a low bounce wedge. Adding the .06K allows us to give players, some of whom might fit somewhere between an .08M Grind and an .04T Grind, a low bounce wedge that still offers forgiveness, especially from the bunker.”

Since its inception, the .06K Grind has enjoyed tremendous success – with both Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele winning major championships with 60.06K lob wedges in the bag.
