Slaley Hall’s men’s team kept their hands on the Hadrian League trophy by the narrowest of margins following a nail-biting conclusion to this year’s inter-club competition.
Slaley’s team sat top of the standings by just one point going into the final round of matches, with the title set to be decided on the final night as they faced second-placed Bedlingtonshire away from home.
Bedlingtonshire were leading the tie 6-2 with just two matches left on the course, but Slaley turned both those around to tie the match 6-6 and retain the trophy by just one point.
Elsewhere, Stocksfield finished third, and High Gosforth Park’s team won the League Plate – which is played for in the second half of the season by the teams in ninth to 15th place after seven matches.
The win in the Hadrian League adds to Slaley Hall’s success this season, which has already included victory in the Davison Cup and the Two Tynes League, plus collecting trophies at the Hadrian League Field Day and Challenge Cup.
The Slaley team will go on to represent the Hadrian League in the Dixon Cup at Ponteland on Sunday September 13. The event brings together the winning teams from the five North East men’s leagues, with the best six scores from seven players counting towards each team’s total.
