NORTHERN GOLFER #108 (AUG/SEPT 24) OUT NOW

The August/September 2024 edition of Northern Golfer is available in golf clubs and retailers across the region now

We’ve reached the peak of the golf season and there’s a lot to cover in our August/September edition.

It’s been an incredibly busy couple of months since our last print edition and our Teeing Off pages are packed with success stories – starting with new English Amateur champions being crowned at Seaton Carew. There’s also been a record-breaking win for 17-year-old Cameron Twynholm in the Northumberland County Championship at Matfen Hall. Martin McCririck and Jess Hall have also won county championship titles, and there are lots more big amateur wins to cover from right across the region – including Andrew Minnikin’s course record-setting performance at Cleveland, and lots of team golf successes. The professionals have also been busy and it was fantastic to see Matty Lamb back in fine form – winning the Bedlingtonshire pro am title before going on to lift the national PGA Assistants’ Championship trophy. His NE/NW PGA colleagues have been incredibly busy too and we have a packed schedule of club pro ams and professional tournaments to cover.

Our columnists are in great form in this edition as well – from Chris Paisley working hard during his summer holiday in the North East, to Chris Simmons reflecting on a second top-10 in The Open for Matt Jordan, and Simon Olver taking a detailed look at data-driven greenkeeping.

While Matt enjoyed his second top-10 at Royal Troon, Dan Brown returned to great form in Scotland – taking the lead in his first major and ultimately finishing in a tie with Matt to book his spot at Portrush next season. Catching up with Dan at his home club, Romanby, was brilliant and our conversation about his progress from mini tour player to DP World Tour winner is a real highlight of this edition, and our magazines so far this year.

Elsewhere, we’ve enjoyed a visit to the wonderful Barnard Castle Golf Club, and caught up with Rosie Belsham for A Round With. There’s also lots of exciting Gear news, and Special Focuses on some of Cumbria’s best courses, and The Inn Collection Group’s Offshore in Lytham St Annes.

We also have three new competitions to enter – for rounds at Durham City and Newbiggin, and a chance to win 1,200 range balls at Hobson.

The Champions of Champions is back on September 15 too. Entries are open now here. Please come and be part of the events if you qualify, they’re a fantastic celebration of club championship winners.
