Morpeth celebrates clean sweep of male county titles

Morpeth Golf Club has achieved an incredibly rare golfing feat – with three of its members holding men’s, seniors’ and boys’ county championship titles at the same time.

The trio includes father and son Sandy and Cameron Twynholm, with Alan Young completing the full house of champions.

Cameron followed in Sandy’s footsteps last summer as he claimed the men’s County Champion-ship title for the first time at Matfen Hall – becoming the youngest-ever winner of the event when he beat James Conn 5&4 in the final at the age of just 17. He will defend his title at Arcot Hall in July.

Alan meanwhile lifted the county’s Under 18’s Championship this season with rounds of 72 and 78 at Westerhope – with the event taking place as part of the first day of the county’s Strokeplay Championship.

Sandy, who lifted the men’s trophy in 2004, added to his stellar record in Northumberland and completed the hat-trick with his second victory in the Senior Championship at Morpeth earlier this season – shooting rounds of 71 and 72 for a one over-par total and a six-shot win over Ken Cairns.
