Whitwood Golf Club is to rename its annual charity day in aid of the rugby league benevolent fund – Rugby League Cares – the Brian Lockwood Trophy.
Former Whitwood and Pontefract member Brian was regarded as one of the sport’s greats, playing for his hometown club, Castleford, as well as Hull KR and Widnes – plus Canterbury Bankstown and Balmain Tigers in Australia.
Brian, who sadly passed away earlier this year, was part of the famous Great Britain Dad’s Army front row in the epic win over Australia at Odsal in 1978, and he founded Whitwood’s annual charity day.
The 2025 four-person team competition will take place on Sunday October 5. To be part of the event, contact organiser Sam Wickens on 07715 168 932.
