If you find yourself getting nervous, particularly with driver in your hands on tight holes or when you’re standing over tough shots, here’s a great thought to keep your swing moving.
When we’re nervous, we tend to speed the swing up and make it shorter – rushing back to the ball to get the shot over with. That rush doesn’t allow us to make a proper turn and have the flow needed to hit a good shot.
If you feel nervous over a shot, concentrate on making a full motion to the top of the backswing – whatever that full motion is for you and your swing.
A good thought, even if you can’t physically make it to the position, is to turn your left shoulder (for the right-handed player) behind the ball. This promotes a full rotation as well as the lower body movement required, and should give you the time to make a full swing. From there, you can turn back to the ball in a powerful position.
