Titleist has added the GT1 3TOUR fairway to its GT metalwood lineup – rounding out its fairway offerings with a tour-inspired three-wood.
The new model, packaged in GT1’s shallow fairway profile, delivers high launch and stability but with a stronger loft – 14.5 degrees – and lower centre of gravity thanks to its multi-material construction.
“Tour feedback is incredibly valuable, so we involve our players in testing for all products – even those that may be designed with a different player in mind,” said JJ Van Wezenbeeck, Titleist’s senior director of club promotions. “During GT1 fairway testing, we found some tour players really loved the shaping and face height, but we knew that many of them would need a little less loft and lower centre of gravity for a stronger flight. Tom Bennett [principal product manager, Titleist metalwood R&D] and the R&D team were able to give us a product in GT1 3TOUR that gave us all the benefits of the GT1 shaping while lowering spin to a more optimal window for those players. Since bringing it out on tour, we’ve seen strong adoption from several players who like a shallow, easy-to-launch design, but need a little less spin.”
On the PGA Tour, GT1 3TOUR (RRP £349) has been a mainstay for players including Doug Ghim and Cameron Davis.
The technology in GT1 3TOUR includes an ultra-lightweight crown design comprised of Titleist’s Proprietary Matrix Polymer. The multi-material construction afforded engineers significant weight savings to reposition the centre of gravity lower and optimise launch and spin. The new model also features a very shallow profile, increasing playability and launch from the turf.
Like existing GT1 fairways, GT1 3TOUR also features adjustable fore/aft weights to allow greater control over ball flight and launch conditions. A heavier flat weight positioned forward delivers faster ball speed and lower spin, while flipping the heavy weight to the aft position increases stability and launch.
