The Northumberland’s team wins NUGC Teams Championship

The Northumberland’s Harrison Sewell, Andrew Griffiths and Duncan Ross topped the leaderboard in the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs’ Teams Championship at Hexham.

Playing in the 36-hole division one flight – Harrison (68-72), Andrew (69-74) and Duncan (78-81) led the way with a team score of 22 over-par – beating Hexham’s Junior Dobson, Sean Heads and Daniel Twizell on countback with a better second round total.

The Northumberland will go on to represent the county at the English Men’s Champion Club event at The Oaks on September 20-21.

Meanwhile, the second division title went to Newcastle United – represented by Mark Wharton (67), Michael Burrow (71) and Cameron Stott (74) – with a two over-par total. They led the field by 23 shots over 18 holes and secured promotion to division one for 2026 alongside Arcot Hall, Longhirst Hall and Prudhoe.

Mark led the individual scoring in division two, while City of Newcastle’s Andrew Minnikin (66-68) led division one with a six under-par total of 134.
