For the second year in a row, The Cairndale in Dumfries has been shortlisted in the Scottish Golf Tour-ism Awards.
The 86-bedroom hotel and spa is one of four finalists in the Premium (four-star equivalent) category of the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards – with the winner set to be announced in Edinburgh on March 12.
Named Scotland’s top spa and independent hotel in 2025, The Cairndale was shortlisted in the same category at last year’s Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.
“Inclusion among the four best golf hotels in Scotland in such a fiercely contested competition under-lines our consistently high standard of service and continuing investment in quality,” said The Cairndale’s golf co-ordinator Claire Scott. “Over the past year, we’ve added more attractions than ever for guests, providing major boosts to tourism while leading the way in showcasing the south west as an increasingly important part of Scotland’s golfing scene.
“Situated a short drive from the English border and 75 minutes from Glasgow and its international air-port, we’re handily placed as the accommodation hub for golfers in Scotland and the north of England who want to tackle a dozen of Scotland’s most scenic courses.”
Last autumn, the UK Good Spa Guide named The Cairndale as Scotland’s best spa – ahead of run-ners-up Gleneagles and One Spa at Edinburgh’s Sheraton Hotel. The £2million adults-only spa was opened in summer 2024. In 2025, the hotel opened a casual dining restaurant – The Oak – and un-veiled 12 new rooms.
“The Cairndale is an absolutely crucial part of the south of Scotland’s visitor economy,” said David Hope-Jones, chief executive officer of the South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA). “As part of the south of Scotland’s Responsible Tourism Strategy, we are actively working to develop and better co-ordinate our destination’s golf offering. The Cairndale is playing a leading role in this work, and we recognise that the hotel is much-loved by the golf fraternity. We are working closely with it to help extend the season and inspire more people to visit the south.”
