Stars shine in Woodsome Hall’s Captains Weekend

Captains Weekend at Woodsome Hall produced some excellent performances as 176 members competed for the 102nd Captains Prize trophy.

First played for in the year after Woodsome was established, this year’s winner was Billy Fisher, playing off a handicap of 12, with rounds of 65 and 68.

Meanwhile, 12-year-old Charlie Evans, playing off a handicap of 19, made the cut on Saturday with a nett score of 71 then shot a nett 65 on Sunday to win the junior prize.

“Words cannot describe how proud we are of this young man,” said Charlie’s parents, Richard and Maddy. “It’s not just the golf; it’s all the members coming over and saying how lovely and polite he is. What an amazing feeling and what a club.”

The best gross score of the weekend came from Simon Lewis, playing off a handicap of one, with rounds of 71 and 72 for a 143 total.

“The weekend will forever be a cherished memory,” said men’s captain Amer Latif. “The cutline after the first round (72) showed how competitive the field was. My family and I loved hosting, and a well-attended presentation meant it was truly a weekend I’ll never forget.”

The event also raised £2,700 for mental health charity Platform 1.
