Following their Hadrian League victory in 2023, Slaley Hall’s men’s team claimed an emphatic win in the Dixon Cup at Bamburgh Castle – topping the leaderboard by 15 shots.
The event, which brings together the winners of the North East’s five men’s leagues, was postponed at the end of the 2023 season after lightning stopped play. Rearranged to open the 2024 calendar – the six scores from seven team event was won by Slaley’s Tom Skelton (66), John Kennedy (67), Brandon Bailey (68), Xan Milligan (70), Kris Gray (72) and Luke Bonser (79) while Harvey Robson’s score was discounted.
North Northumberland Golf League champions Dunstanburgh Castle and Newcastle & District Golf League winners The Northumberland both finished with team totals of 437, as Teesside champions Bishop Auckland finished fourth.
The win was Slaley’s third for the 2023 season, adding to their wins in the league and Davison Cup – an inter-club knockout played between the Hadrian and North Northumberland clubs.
Meanwhile, Dunstanburgh’s Dave Baker won the President’s Trophy with the leading individual score at the Dixon Cup – a three under-par 65.
The event, organised by the Hadrian League, kicked off the 50th year of the league, which will include a special four-person team event at Tyneside Golf Club on September 1, and a busy schedule on the course with the league season set to begin on April 30.
