Sheffield boys complete league and Team Championship double

The Sheffield boys’ team has added to its incredible run of success in recent years – winning the YIDU Team Championship at Hull Golf Club for a third consecutive year after defending the Yorkshire-Inter District League title for the fourth year in a row.

Following the completion of the league season, the six-player Sheffield team went on to complete the double as they successfully defended the YIDU Team Championship trophy. The team of George Cooper (Doncaster), Ethan Clarke (Waterfront), Cian Lowry (Waterfront), Will Bracha (Sitwell), Luke Baldwin (Waterfront) and Harrison Hall (Hillsborough) – along with reserve Jude Nichols (Wheatley) – won the 40th edition of the event, which is played over 36 holes with five scores from six counting to the team total. Sheffield topped the leaderboard by just one shot as Teesside finished runners-up. Meanwhile, George led the individual scoring with a two-round total of one under-par.

Sheffield union secretary and boys’ team manager Paul Hardstaff said: “The group of boys who have represented us in the league and the teams championship this year are a real credit to the Sheffield union, and everyone involved with the team is so happy for them. All the boys are a pleasure to work with, they’re well coached, and they represent Sheffield brilliantly as a team – all we do is encourage them every step of the way.

“We’ve had tremendous success with so many boys playing for multiple years, and most of them from this year’s team set to represent Sheffield again in 2026, but we don’t rest on our laurels and we always keep a lookout for new players coming through. We have a strong pipeline coming through each year and representing our boys’ team before they go on to the men’s teams, the Yorkshire teams, and on from there. All the success is down to their hard work and we’re very proud of all of them.”
