Morpeth’s Sandy Twynholm and Backworth’s Steve Anderton lifted the Northumberland seniors’ strokeplay and matchplay titles respectively at Morpeth Golf Club.
Sandy will represent Northumberland in the Senior Men’s County Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa on September 13 having won the strokeplay title for the second time. Sandy, who won the event in 2020, shot rounds of 71 and 72 for a one over-par total and a six-shot win over Ken Cairns.
Meanwhile, Steve successfully defended the seniors’ Matchplay Championship. One of the eight qualifiers who made it through from the strokeplay event, Steve beat Conor Browne 8&7 in the semi-finals before defeating City of Newcastle-based Ken 3&2 in the final to retain the Mike Fleming Salver. Ken had progressed to the final with a 4&3 victory over Ian Richardson.
