Rory Thompson Cumbria Strokeplay Championship

Rory Thompson wins the Cumbria Strokeplay Championship

Carlisle’s Rory Thompson battled wind and rain to win the Cumbria County Golf Union’s Strokeplay Championship at his home club.

Rory shot rounds of 72, 70, 73 and 68 for a 72-hole total of 283 and a three-shot win over clubmate Archie Davies – as Brampton’s Mathew Ward finished third. Meanwhile, the Tufty Blair Nett Trophy was won by Alfie Mcdonough, who was also the leading junior in the event.

Rory will now go on to represent Cumbria in the English Men’s County Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa on September 26-28.
