Jonathan Richardson got his season off to a fast start by picking up his first winner’s cheque as a professional at the NE/NW PGA’s pro am at Rockliffe Hall.
Jonathan, who works with Andy Paisley at Hexham Golf Club, shot a seven under-par 65 to finish three shots clear of the field. Sharpley’s Simon Robinson (68) finished in second place as Westerhope’s Michael Nesbit shot a two under-par 70 to finish third.
Jonathan said: “It was a great feeling to get my first win as a pro. I played really steady all day, concentrating on hitting greens and managed to get to seven under-par pretty quickly, including holing out for eagle from 80 yards. It’s been a busy few months at home and finishing my PGA exams so my expectations weren’t too high at Rockliffe. Winning was on my to do list this season so it’s great to have that under my belt before we hit the busiest part of the year.”
Meanwhile, Morpeth’s David Clark won the season-opening Spring Pro Am at Archerfield with a two-round score of five under-par (77 stableford points). Chris McDonnell (Golf at Goodwood) took second place on three under-par as Andy Paisley took third spot on two under-par. Golf at Goodwood’s team of Scott Robinson, Kevin Mackey and Stephen Falcus won the team prize with 177 points.
In the Wynyard Pro Series event, Andy Paisley and Simon Calvert shared the top spot with rounds of 64 while Simon and Simon Robinson shared top spot in the Silloth Pro Am with rounds of 70.
