Rabbits breed

The biggest season of North East Rabbits Golf Association competition in the organisation’s history is at the halfway stage.

More than 5,000 players will compete in the rabbits (16-28 handicaps) and inter (8-15 handicaps) leagues this season, representing 34 rabbits clubs and 21 inter clubs.

In the rabbits, which is split into four zones, Romanby, Catterick, Roseberry Grange and Malton & Norton lead their groups. In the inter league, which is split into three zones; Malton & Norton, Wearside and Hunley Hall lead the way.

NERGA secretary Martin Hill said: “2017 is our biggest ever year with Aldwark Manor and Rudding Park joining the rabbits and Aldwark and Dinsdale Spa joining the inter league, and things are going incredibly well so far.

“The feedback from the clubs and all the players continues to be incredibly positive. Last year our participating clubs benefited from around £25,000 and we’re very proud to be putting that into our clubs and to be providing competitive, inter-club golf for so many players,” added Martin.

The leading team in each zone, as well as the highest scoring runner up, will progress to Finals Day at Woodham Golf and Country Club in September. Inter Finals Day will take place on September 23 while Rabbits Finals Day will take place on September 30. The leading points scorer from each club in the association will also compete for their respective Individual Trophy.
