Northumberland, Yorkshire and Lancashire won their second round matches in this year’s Northern Counties Golf Union men’s league.
At Ringway, Northumberland edged out Cheshire 9.5-8.5 with a 7.5-4.5 win in the singles after losing the morning foursomes 4-2. The win included foursomes and singles victories for captain Andrew Minnikin – who earned his 132nd cap for his county, breaking Sandy Twynholm’s previous record.
At Scarcroft, Yorkshire picked up their second win of the season with an 11.5-6.5 victory over Cumbria – including a dominant 5-1 win in the morning foursomes.
Meanwhile, at Boldon, Durham were beaten 10.5-7.5 by Lancashire.
The third round of matches is scheduled for July 5-6 with Cumbria hosting Durham at Bentham, Northumberland facing Lancashire at Bolton Old Links, and Yorkshire welcoming Cheshire to Sand Moor.
