Northern hopefuls

With six HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour events remaining before the season-ending Tour Championship, a number of the north’s best young professionals are in position to push for a top-five finish in the Race To Amendoeira and earn a step up to the Challenge Tour in 2018.

James Simpson (Close House) is the highest ranked in 12th place. The 24-year-old is in his third EuroPro season and has finished in the top-20 in three of his last four tournaments, including a tie for second place at the Matchroom Sport Championship alongside Yorkshireman Jonathan Thomson.

Nick McCarthy (Moortown) is close behind in 14th place with two top-three finishes this season. The 29-year-old will be looking to emulate that form at The Clipper Logistics Championship at Moor Allerton in September. Just outside the top 20, James Maw (Rockliffe Hall) is looking to push on from his 2016 win and has a top-three finish to his name this season. He will be hoping for a strong finish to the season to put him in contention in the race to Amendoeira following a mixed season.

The tour returns to our region for The Clipper Logistics Championship at Moor Allerton, September 13-15.
