England completed a clean sweep of Home Internationals titles as the Men’s team, featuring Hexham’s Matty Lamb, retained the trophy at Lahinch in Ireland.
England beat Scotland 9-6 in the deciding match to lead the four home nations as Matty picked up five points from a possible six, remaining undefeated in singles.
England beat Wales 12-3 on the opening day, Matty teaming up with Ben Hutchinson in the foursomes in his only loss of the week before beating Rhys Evans 3&2 in the singles.
Against Ireland on day two, Matty teamed up with Ben again, winning their foursomes match 3&2. In the afternoon, Matty beat Tom McKibbin 1up.
On the final day, the teams were tied 2.5-2.5 after the morning session, Matty and Ben winning their match 4&3 before England picked up 6.5 points in the singles, Matty beating Darren Howie 1up as England completed a clean sweep of the girls, women’s, boys, men’s and seniors home internationals titles.
“The win means everything to the team,” said England captain, Gareth Jenkins. “The strength we had in depth showed this week.
“They are great at playing for themselves, but even better playing for each other. Unfortunately, we’re going to lose a lot of players to the paid ranks but they’ve finished off their amateur careers in style this week. They’ve played some outstanding golf on a beautiful golf course.”
