North East & North West PGA chairman John Harrison led the field in the circuit’s Tour Championship at Brancepeth Castle.
John, who is based at The Northumberland, picked up the win in the order of merit event with a three under-par round of 67.
John, who lost a playoff in the previous order of merit event at Dunstanburgh Castle, said: “It’s a great feeling to be in good form and get my hands on an order of merit trophy again. The tournaments among the pros have a different feel and it’s always great to win one of these. I’ve been playing nicely, I like Brancepeth Castle, and a bit of rain and wind throughout the day kept things interesting.
“My golf was steady throughout, I took my chances and made my birdies on the easier, generally downwind, holes and got through the tough ones. Making the turn with a pair of threes on nine and 10 is always a good feeling and that set me up for the finish.
“I’ve had a good year, including shooting my age in the Matfen Hall pro am, and it’s great to be in the top 16 for the Matchplay Championship – which I always look forward to as Slaley Hall is another venue which suits my eye.”
Meanwhile, Jonathan Graham finished one shot back at Brancepeth in second place as three players – Michael Skelton, David Clark and Simon Robinson – finished in a tie for third.
Following the final strokeplay event in this year’s Titleist Order of Merit, the top 16 players will progress to the Matchplay Championship, which takes place at Slaley Hall on September 23 and 25.
