Women’s Amateur champion Jess Baker has received an invitation to compete in the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur alongside four of her England teammates.
Jess, who won the 119th Women’s Amateur at Hunstanton in 2022, will add the elite amateur event at the home of The Masters Tournament to her growing list of international experience, which already includes two women’s majors and an LPGA event. She is also scheduled to compete in two more women’s majors in 2023, including the US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach.
The England internationals also heading to Augusta are Charlotte Heath, Caley McGinty, Lottie Woad and Amelia Williamson.
The event, which takes place March 29-April 1, first took place in 2019. It brings together an international field of 72 women amateurs, who compete over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut takes place after 36 holes at Champions Retreat Golf Club, with the leading 30 players advancing to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club.
Jennifer Kupcho, the world’s top-ranked amateur, played her final six holes in five under-par, including an eagle on the par five 13th at Augusta National, to become the inaugural champion.
The 2020 championship was cancelled due to Covid, before 17-year-old Tsubasa Kajitani became the first winner from Japan at Augusta National in any tournament with her playoff victory over Emilia Migliaccio in 2021.
