James Walker has secured the PGA in Yorkshire Order of Merit title and the rewards that come with it.
James, who is based at The Oaks, had already secured top spot in the points race before the final event of the season – the Dawn Wilson Charity Pro Am at Forest Park. Following torrential rain, the event was shortened to nine holes and therefore did not count for the points race – though James still topped the leaderboard at Forest Park with a two under-par score.
James’ county PGA season also included a win in the Yorkshire Open, a second-place finish in the Yorkshire Championship, a T2 finish in the Yorkshire Masters, a T7 finish in the Yorkshire Classic, and him reaching the semi-finals of the Matchplay.
With his win, James earned a spot in the Yorkshire team for the PGA Inter-County Championship at Ingrebourne Links on October 1-2. He’ll be joined in the event by OOM runner-up Michael Ramsden (Lees Hall) – whose season included a win in the Yorkshire Championship, a T2 finish in the Yorkshire Classic, and top-10 finishes in the Masters and Matchplay.
James will also be heading to Bermuda in October to compete in the Gosling’s Bermuda Open. With Michael heading to the PGA Pro-Captain Challenge Final in Italy, Harry Hunter-Mapp will take up the second spot in Bermuda. James and Harry will compete in the Gosling’s Bermuda Open at Port Royal on October 16-18 with their costs covered by PGA in Yorkshire sponsors including Gosling’s, and the Bermuda Golf Association.
