Investment continues on and off the golf course at Alnmouth Golf Club

Work to enhance the on- and off-course experience at Alnmouth Golf Club has continued in recent months – with improvements made to the clubhouse as three more holes have been completed as part of a rebunkering programme.

The work on the golf course is following a detailed master plan created by architect Howard Swan of Swan Golf Design and is inkeeping with the original work of Harry Colt. When complete, the programme will see an overall reduction in the number of bunkers on the course by around 40% – with every bunker that remains being renovated and returned to, or reshaped in, Colt’s style.

In recent months, work on the bunkers on the 11th, 17th and 18th holes has been completed – and there are now just eight holes (1, 2, 4 ,5, 6, 10, 13 and 14) to be finished as part of the project.

As well as undertaking this work, the greenkeeping team has also introduced several new pieces of on-course machinery to its fleet, and the club has renewed its golf buggies.

Meanwhile, the vast Foxton Hall clubhouse has undergone a series of improvements. The lounge area has had an extensive refurbishment, while new public toilets have been installed. The ladies’ locker room and toilets have also been refurbished – while two more bedrooms in the dormy house within the clubhouse have been refurbished as part of an ongoing programme to modernise the accommodation offering.

General manager Daniel Harrison said: “Our work at Alnmouth continues to elevate what the club offers to its members and guests, and we’re extremely pleased with the latest projects carried out on the golf course and in the clubhouse.

“Our team continues to enhance what is offered by one of England’s oldest golf clubs and we’re proud to have the opportunity to do so thanks to the continued support of our members, partners and guests. These projects are part of a long-term vision to build on more than 150 years of Alnmouth Golf Club, and we’re excited to keep the ball rolling in the coming months and years.”
