The Northumberland’s Harrison Sewell finished third in the individual standings as he led the Midland College Chaparrals to victory in the 2025 men’s NJCAA Division 1 Championship.
Harrison shot rounds of 71, 69, 72 and 75 for a one under-par total at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas as he led The Chaps – freshmen Harrison, Scott Spark, Reuben Harvey and Hunter Welch and sophomores Bryce Womack and Benjamin Lund-Ravn – to the team title with a six over-par total, beating their nearest rivals by seven shots.
“I’ve enjoyed college golf a lot in my first year in the US,” said Harrison. “Having found my feet, used a washing machine for the first time and got to know my teammates, I enjoyed every minute of my second semester and my golf improved as I played more events as well.
“The golf courses are longer and the ball goes further out there. It took me a bit of time to get used to the target golf style as well. All that experience came together at nationals and I’m proud of the three rounds I played, my solo third finish, and getting the win alongside my teammates.”
Following his first year in the US at junior college, Harrison has transferred to Georgia Southern University, where he will team up with Northumberland teammate Morgan Blythe for the 2025-26 season.
“I’m excited to join a very strong and successful team at Georgia Southern when I go back to the US later this summer,” added Harrison. “My goal was always to move into a four-year programme and I was over the moon to receive such a good offer from a division one school. It’ll be great to be in the same side as Morgan following his transfer, and I’m excited to build on my successes this season.”
