Halfway there

We’ve reached the midway point in the season, and I’ve already learned so much, writes Rosie Belsham

I’ve had a really busy run since my last column – playing seven of the last nine weeks, which is crazy. I’ve been so in the moment and had so much fun, I didn’t realise how much travel I’d done and how much golf I’d played.

My first four-week stretch was very successful – I had my first top-10 and had some consistent scores. After a short break, I played three events which weren’t so successful – my golf felt good, but the scores weren’t.

The last three weeks have given me a real confidence boost, even though I’ve had some bad scores. I’ve been playing good golf, and my stats have been improving, but I keep having a big number or making a planning error.

I’ve taken a lot from this run as I know a good result is really close, I just need a couple of good bounces and a better plan sometimes.

We’re now just over halfway through the season and I can’t believe how fast it has gone. I have made so many friends and seen so many amazing places. I have learned so much and now I’m starting to implement what I’ve learned into my game.

For future events, I’ll be arriving a day earlier and taking more time to map the course and appreciate the different ways to play holes. This should hopefully eliminate the big numbers.

I’m still trying to figure out how many events I can play in a row too. I’ve been so tired after more than two events in a row that I got some bloodwork done. This highlighted a couple of things which should hopefully be quick to fix, and I’m hoping this helps me finish the year strong and get straight into the final stage of qualifying school.

I’ve also learned that when I’m playing a lot, it’s easy to forget about the basics.

Despite playing almost every day, I can let these slip. I noticed this recently after a bad putting day. I sent some videos to my coach and found I’d slipped into old bad habits. My ball and head position were way off and it was so frustrating as these are so easy to fix, but a lack of focus on the basics allowed them to slip. I’m now holding myself more accountable on these and have put a solid practise routine in place to work on the basics every day.

Wish me luck in the second half of the season – I’m sure I’ll have learned a lot more by the end of the year!
