Golf ball pocket

Golf ball fitting – A big decision

We get fitted for 14 clubs which we learn to understand and use effectively, so why do so many golfers have a pocket full of golf balls which resembles a pick ‘n’ mix?

The ball is the only piece of equipment we use for every shot in every round, and when you test golf balls and carry out ball fittings with players, you quickly learn that while every ball is round and dimpled, they work very differently.

The first process every player should go through is a golf ball fitting backed up by launch monitor data. While many players would benefit from more distance and a firmer ball, others should look at reducing spin in order to get the most out of their driver. However, we also see players who need more spin in their short-irons and wedges, or a lower launch with driver… there are lots of options out there and you should be testing them all out.

Having tested thoroughly and selected a ball which combines the long and short game characteristics you’re looking for, it’s time to empty out that ball pocket for good. Get rid of all those variables and commit to playing a single golf ball – you’ll be far better off in the long run.
