Garrick Porteous was in imperious form as he clinched a six-shot victory in the Emirates PGA Tour Championship at Al Zorah Golf and Yacht Club.
Garrick, who finished T11 in his defence of the HotelPlanner Tour’s Abu Dhabi Challenge in Al Ain over the weekend, opened with a solid two under-par round of 70 before firing a sensational seven under-par round of 65 that featured eight birdies. That give him a nine under-par total and six-shot win over Joaquin Estevez and Sujjan Singh.
“I got off to a really good start,” said Garrick, who is originally from Northumberland and now lives in Dubai. “I holed a really long putt on the second to build some momentum and then holed a great birdie putt on the fourth. I just kept knocking it close and giving myself plenty of opportunities. We played here a couple of weeks ago on the HotelPlanner Tour, so the setup has been quite challenging over the past two days. That preparation has definitely helped. I’m really happy to finish on top because there’s a lot of quality among the Emirates PGA lads, so yeah, really excited.”
