Garmin launches Approach J1 watch for junior golfers and Approach G82 handheld GPS

Garmin has launched the Approach J1 watch for junior golfers and the Approach G82 handheld GPS and launch monitor to kick off 2026.

The Approach J1 (RRP £309.99) is the first GPS watch designed for junior golfers. Features in the new device include tee-off guidance on where to tee off on every hole according to the golfer’s ability, the option to have a personal par for each hole, and a pace of play timer. There is also the option for club selection recommendations – while the Approach J1 is water-resistant and has 15 hours of battery life in GPS mode.

The watch also features a 1.2ins Amoled touchscreen display, and is available with a cloud blue or lilac metal bezel and a ComfortFit fabric strap.

Meanwhile, the Approach G82 (RRP £519.99) – which replaces the Approach G80 as Garmin’s handheld GPS device and launch monitor – allows you to view club speed, ball speed, carry and total distance on a 5ins touchscreen. The Approach G82 also delivers putting metrics for practice sessions, while on the course it provides distance information displayed on aerial hole maps with 43,000 courses preloaded onto the device.

The waterproof (IPX7) Approach G82 has 25 hours of battery life in GPS mode and eight hours in radar mode. It comes with 43,000 courses preloaded, and includes a magnetic stand to set it up as a launch monitor. There is also automatic shot detection when paired with Garmin Approach CT10 club tracking sensors, Range Relay for more precise distances to the flag when synced with a compatible Garmin rangefinder, and a magnet to attach the device to a buggy.
