Junior golfers from across the region competed at Matfen Hall for their chance to be part of the final stages of the Faldo Futures Series – a national initiative supported by six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo which was created in 2024.
Matfen Hall, one of 10 regional final venues, was recommended by Sir Nick’s son and Faldo Series director Matthew Faldo. Following a successful pilot event on the par three course in 2024, the regional final took place at Matfen this year with 40 participants aged 7-12.
Players travelled from across the north of England and Scotland to compete for a place in the Faldo Futures Grand Final – which will take place at The Belfry ahead of The British Masters.
With great golf played throughout the day, one of the many highlights came from Tilly Bordman (Howley Hall), who fired a stunning three under-par 33 to claim the girls’ 9-10 title – one of the best scores of the week. Wearside’s Charlie Hancill led the boys’ 11-12 category with a two under-par score – while Orla Young (Leeds Golf Centre), Charlie Curry (Hunley Hall), and Giorgio Glendinning (Teeside) led their categories.
Matfen Hall golf manager Nicola Hawes said: “Juniors are the bloodline of this sport. I’ve always championed the importance of giving young players the chance to develop their skills and confidence. Hosting events like this allows us to nurture talent and inspire the next generation.”
The Faldo Futures Series is designed to encourage participation, enjoyment and long-term development in junior golf. The top three players (plus ties) from each division of the regional heats qualify for the national final.
