Leading players from across the region have been named in the England squads for the 2019 season.
The girls’ squad includes Jess Baker (Gosforth Park Ladies), Rosie Belsham (Whitley Bay) and Caitlin Whitehead (Carus Green) – all products of the North Regional Squad – along with Yorkshire’s Charlotte Heath. Meanwhile, Nicola Slater (Lindrick) has been named in the women’s squad.
In the men’s squad, Lindrick’s Bailey Gill is promoted from the A Squad to join Malton & Norton’s David Hague while Howley Hall’s Ben Hutchinson is included in a new-look A Squad. Bailey and David helped England win the Home Internationals at Conwy last September, where David won all six of his matches.
A number of players have already been selected to represent England in April. Rosie, Jess and Caitlin will head to The Scottish U18 Girls’ Championship at St Andrews Eden Golf Club from April 10-12. Meanwhile, Caitlin will be part of a six-person team for The French U21 Women’s Championship at St Cloud from April 18-22.
Last year Caitlin, 16, won the European Young Masters, the Asia Pacific Junior Championship and the West of England Open. Rosie will return to the Scottish Girls’ where she was runner-up last year while Jess will look to add to her 10th place finish in the event in 2018, which she followed with a joint runner-up finish in the English U16 Girls’ Championship.
