City of Newcastle men’s team wins N&D league title

City of Newcastle’s men’s team extended their record-setting success in the Newcastle & District Golf League as they lifted the trophy for an 11th time.

The City of Newcastle team topped division one for the first time since the league was split into two divisions in 2022, lifting the trophy for the first time since 2021 with a game to spare. The Northumberland – champions in 2023 and 2024 – finished second in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Arcot Hall won division two and earned promotion alongside Westerhope and Backworth – as Tyneside, Whitley Bay and Morpeth were relegated from division one.

In the individual points standings, City of Newcastle’s Phil Ridden was the top points scorer in division one with 25 points in his 14 matches, while Backworth’s Ben Brown led division two with 19 points in his 12 matches.

The City of Newcastle team will go on to represent the Newcastle & District Golf League in the Dixon Cup at Whitburn on Sunday September 21. The event brings together the winning teams from the five North East men’s leagues, with the best six scores from seven players counting towards each team’s total.
