Chris Long joins the team at Allerthorpe Golf and Country Club

PGA trainee Chris Long has joined the team at Allerthorpe Golf and Country Club.

Chris, who will begin the third and final year of his qualification later this season, has already hit the ground running at the club and is delivering lessons to players of all abilities as well as running the golf shop.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Allerthorpe and to establish myself as the club’s professional,” said Chris, who arrives from Cottingham Parks and Skidby Lakes.

“The facilities here are outstanding, from the newly covered driving range and the short game area to the excellent nine-hole course. We’re also enhancing the golf shop’s offerings and I’m eager to expand our services, including club repairs and regripping.

“My other big priority is junior coaching, and bringing juniors from the local area to the club to experience golf for the first time then develop them into golfers.”

Before joining Allerthorpe, Chris served in the army and pursued various careers, including training as an electrician and being a milkman. He planned to begin his golfing career in Indonesia, but those plans were altered by a significant earthquake. Upon returning to Yorkshire, he joined Cottingham Parks and Skidby Lakes, where he worked for two years before moving to Allerthorpe.

“My path has been unconventional, but it has enriched my perspective,” added Driffield-based Chris, who grew up in Heysham. “From military service to discovering golf in 2017, I’ve embraced the challenges and opportunities along the way. As I complete my PGA qualification, I’m committed to developing as a club professional.”
